What the backrest actually does

A backrest changes how long someone will sit. Backless stools are fine for a quick coffee at a window bar, but in a venue where people eat a meal or stay for a second drink, the backrest is what keeps them there. It also makes the stool safer to get on and off, because there is something to hold as the sitter turns.

The moulded stools on this page are shaped rather than flat, so the shell carries the sitter without a separate cushion to replace. The Envy range is static seat load tested to 150kg. All stools here are commercial grade and carry a one year warranty against faults arising from defective workmanship.

Materials, and which stools can go outside

Polypropylene. The Envy, Broadway, Cross, Tuscan, Specta, Terrace and Luna stools are single mould injection polypropylene reinforced with fibre glass, with UV protection added to slow fading in Australian conditions. They are rated for indoor and outdoor use, and the Envy shell is drilled so it stays light and drains if it is left out in the rain.

Powder coated steel. The Replica Tolix stools are steel with a matte powder coat and rubber stops fitted to the feet so they do not mark or slip on hard floors. These are rated for indoor use only.

The stools weigh between 4.7kg and 6.2kg, so staff can move and reset them easily. Assembly is required, and once a stool is assembled it should not be taken apart again. These stools are not stackable, so allow floor space rather than storage height when you are planning a venue reset.

Colours

The Envy stool has the widest colour run: black, white, charcoal, latte, bright blue, lime green, olive green, orange and red. Broadway, Cross and Tuscan come in black and white. Specta, Terrace and Luna come in black. The Replica Tolix stools come in matte black. Because monitors and operating systems render colour differently, treat the swatches as a guide rather than an exact match.

Styles that suit the room
